Company / FAQs
Questions leaders usually ask before working with Ivory.
Most people do not arrive with a perfect brief.
They arrive with a decision, a business problem or a sense that the organisation has become harder to understand than it should be.
These answers explain where to start, how our advisory work differs from other support and how delivery works beyond Ivory.
Working with Ivory & Co
Where the relationship usually begins.
What does Ivory & Co do?
Ivory helps organisations understand how they create value, how strategy becomes execution and where complexity is helping or holding the business back. The work spans advisory, diagnostics, governance, strategy realisation, software, certification and the methods that connect them.
Where should we start?
Start with the question that feels most true. If you are carrying a decision, Business Advisory is usually right. If something feels harder than it should but you cannot explain why, start with the Strategic & Architecture Diagnostic. If the strategy is already in motion, the Strategy Realisation Office may be the better conversation.
How do I know which engagement is right for us?
You do not need to know before you speak with us. The first conversation is designed to understand what is happening inside the business and identify the smallest useful next step.
Who do you work with?
We work with founders, owners, CEOs, executive teams, boards, internal strategy leaders and organisations responsible for turning complex ideas into commercial and operational outcomes.
Do you work with small businesses or enterprise organisations?
Both. The scale changes, but the pattern is often the same: growth introduces more people, decisions, systems and priorities than the organisation can hold through intuition alone.
Do you work internationally?
Yes, where the work can be delivered well. Many conversations can happen remotely, and deeper engagements are shaped around the needs, location and operating rhythm of the organisation.
What industries do you work in?
Ivory works across industries where strategy, operations, governance and commercial performance need to be connected. Our current Industry Blueprints include FMCG, manufacturing, construction and infrastructure, professional services, healthcare, retail and eCommerce, wholesale and distribution, family business, government and not-for-profit.
Advisory
Experienced judgement around the table.
What is the difference between Business Advisory and consulting?
Consulting often starts with a defined project and deliverable. Business Advisory starts with the decision, context or tension the leader is carrying. It is less about producing a report and more about helping leaders make better decisions with a broader commercial, operational and organisational view.
What is the difference between Business Advisory and coaching?
Coaching usually focuses on the individual leader. Business Advisory focuses on the business decision and its consequences. It may support the leader, but the work is grounded in the realities of the organisation.
How often do advisory clients meet with you?
It depends on the business. Some clients meet monthly. Others call before a significant decision, investment, acquisition, governance issue or period of change.
Can you work alongside our existing advisers?
Yes. We often sit alongside accountants, lawyers, board members, implementation partners and internal leaders. Our role is to help bring the commercial and organisational picture together.
Can we engage you for a single project?
Yes. Some engagements are ongoing, while others are focused on a specific question, diagnostic, decision or piece of work that needs to be built.
Strategic & Architecture Diagnostic
Seeing the business before changing it.
What is a Strategic & Architecture Diagnostic?
It is a structured engagement that helps leadership understand how the business is really operating today, where complexity has crept in and why execution may feel harder than expected.
Who should be involved?
Usually the people responsible for strategy, operations, finance, technology, governance and execution. The right group depends on where the tension is showing up.
What do we receive?
You leave with a clearer picture of how the business operates today, a common language for discussing it and practical priorities for what should happen next.
How long does it take?
The timeframe depends on the size and complexity of the organisation. We shape the diagnostic around the question being answered rather than forcing every business through the same process.
What happens after the diagnostic?
Some organisations continue into a broader engagement with Ivory. Others take the clarity and move forward themselves. Both outcomes are valid.
Board & Governance
Structures that support better judgement.
Do we need a board before engaging you?
No. We can help businesses establishing a board for the first time, as well as organisations that already have directors and want clearer roles, responsibilities and decision making.
What is the difference between governance and management?
Management runs the business. Governance clarifies how significant decisions are made, who is accountable and how leadership maintains confidence in the direction and stewardship of the organisation.
Can you review our existing governance?
Yes. We can review existing board structures, delegations, decision rights, meeting rhythms and board-executive relationships to see whether they still suit the business.
Strategy Realisation Office
Keeping strategy visible while work is being delivered.
What is a Strategy Realisation Office?
It is an ongoing advisory function that helps leadership understand whether decisions, investments, initiatives and changes continue to support the strategy the organisation has chosen.
What is the difference between a Strategy Realisation Office and a PMO?
A PMO usually focuses on project governance, delivery status, milestones and resource coordination. A Strategy Realisation Office focuses on whether the work being delivered still supports the strategy, business architecture and intended outcomes.
Do we still need a PMO?
Often, yes. A PMO and Strategy Realisation Office can work alongside each other. The PMO helps manage delivery discipline. The Strategy Realisation Office helps keep strategic intent visible.
Does the Strategy Realisation Office manage projects?
No. Ivory does not use the Strategy Realisation Office to manage projects, lead change programs or implement technology. Those responsibilities belong to delivery specialists.
Who is responsible for implementation?
Implementation may sit with internal teams, delivery partners, technology providers, change specialists or Certified Partners. Ivory can stay involved to provide strategic oversight without taking over delivery.
How long do you stay involved?
The involvement depends on the organisation and the strategy being realised. Some businesses need support through a defined period of execution; others use the function as an ongoing strategic rhythm.
Delivery
How work moves beyond the conversation.
Do you implement the recommendations?
Sometimes we build specific outputs by hand. In many cases, implementation is delivered by the organisation's own team, existing partners or Certified Partners while Ivory remains involved in the areas where strategic clarity and quality matter most.
Who delivers the change?
Delivery depends on the work. It may involve internal teams, technology partners, change specialists, Certified Partners or a combination of people already trusted by the business.
Can our own team implement the work?
Yes. In many organisations, the best outcome is that internal teams own the implementation with clearer language, better decision structures and stronger alignment.
What is a Certified Partner?
A Certified Partner is an adviser, organisation or delivery partner licensed to use Ivory methods, products or services under Ivory's standard.
Why would we use a Certified Partner?
A Certified Partner can help deliver the work using the same methods and quality expectations, especially when the organisation needs local capacity, specialist delivery or ongoing implementation support.
Can we work with our existing implementation partner?
Yes. We can work alongside existing partners where the roles are clear and the work remains connected to the strategy and business architecture.
Does Ivory & Co stay involved during implementation?
Where useful, yes. Ivory can stay involved through advisory, governance, Strategy Realisation Office support or quality oversight while delivery teams do the implementation work.
Can Ivory & Co recommend delivery partners?
Where we know the right partner for the work, we can make an introduction. The recommendation depends on the type of work, the industry, the location and the capability required.
Products & licensing
Using the work directly.
Do I need every Ivory & Co product?
No. The products are connected, but they are not a bundle everyone needs to buy. The right starting point depends on the problem the organisation is trying to solve.
Can we buy products individually?
Yes, where a product is ready for the way you want to use it. Some products are software, some are advisory outputs and some are still delivered by hand.
Can we licence Ivory & Co products?
In some cases, yes. Licensing depends on the product, the intended use and whether the organisation or partner can meet the standard required to deliver it well.
How do organisations become Certified Partners?
Certification is assessed against Ivory's standard. The pathway depends on whether the organisation wants to deliver specific products, advisory methods or a broader part of the Ivory discipline.
Can internal teams become certified?
Yes, where the internal team is expected to use Ivory methods or products inside its own organisation and can meet the standard required for responsible use.
Still not sure where to begin? That is normal.
